12 Fun and Unique Ways to Celebrate July With Seniors
Celebrate the middle of summer…
with these activities for Seniors!
- Celebrate Independence Day all month with patriotic dishes. See this recipe for a Red, White, and Blue Yogurt Dessert. Check out my Pinterest Page under Summer Time Family Activities for other patriotic dishes.
- Make strawberry sundaes in honor of National Strawberry Sundae Day on July 7th. Set up a sundae bar and let everyone add their favorite toppings.

- Bring camp to your own backyard by barbecuing hamburgers and brats, roasting marshmallows over a fire-pit, or making smores.
- Enjoy the stars in the night sky with a telescope or just the naked eye. Try this app called SkyView® for IPhones. It allows you to hold your IPhone up to the sky at night and it points out stars, constellations, etc…
- Plan a picnic in the park or in your own backyard with a younger member of the family. Don’t forget your teddy bears for “Teddy Bear Picnic Day” on July 10th.
- Plan another visit to a local botanic gardens. If you go each month you see the changes in the plants.

- July is Family Reunion Month. Celebrate by reminiscing, looking at scrapbooks and photo albums, and lots of visiting. Journal your reunion with pictures and writing down the stories you hear. Have seniors write down their family trees or family stories.
- July is also National Wheelchair Beautification Month. Help a loved one who uses a wheelchair to spruce it up with a new wheelchair accessory bag or a good cleaning.
- Take a drive to visit the wildflowers in your state wherever that might be: mountains, local fields, botanic gardens, parks, or other areas.
- Make ice cream! Find a favorite recipe and crank up the ice cream maker.
