Indoor Activities to do with an Older Family Member
Here is a list of indoor activities to do with an older family member or friend, especially useful during the cold winter months.
Depending on your loved ones situation, some activities may be independent while others may require assistance. Consider including children in the activities when possible.
- Putting together jigsaw puzzles -Start the puzzle on a card table and work on it when possible
- Paper games and puzzles including Sudoku, mazes, crosswords, and word finds
- Board games
- Playing cards
- Using a computer or tablet-Look at social media, webcams, interesting facts, read poems, etc.
- Listening to music-Make a favorites playlist
- Watching TV programs of interest
- Watching movies-Rent movies from your local library
- Petting, brushing, feeding, or playing with pets
- Baking, cooking, or looking at recipes
- Hobbies or crafting such as crocheting, woodworking, embroidery, painting, etc…
- Genealogy-Research on the internet or discuss what is remembered
- Looking at photographs or scrapbooks-Sort photographs and make scrapbooks too
- Reading a book or magazine
- Letter writing-Write to friends and relatives or send cards for special occasions
- Making a shopping list
- Making phone calls-Make calls to friends and family
- Praying or bible study
- Grooming activities such as fixing hair, trimming and/or painting nails, or applying lotion
- Taking pictures
- Playing an instrument
- Reminiscing
