Activity Shopping List

The next time you shop at your local department store take along this shopping list as ideas for activity materials and supplies. The supplies may be used for activities for your older family member or friend. Note that some materials and supplies may not apply to your loved one. Some supplies may need to be used with caregiver supervision according to your situation. Take along your loved one to shop with you!

  • Nail polish and nail polish remover
  • Makeup
  • Deck of cards
  • Puzzles such as crosswords, Sudoku, mazes, or fill-ins
  • Board games they enjoy or can play
  • Music they enjoy listening to
  • Movies they might enjoy watching
  • Books and magazines
  • Craft supplies such as yarn, quilting supplies, fabric, paints, modeling clay
  • Coloring supplies such as crayons, colored pencils, or watercolor paints and paintbrushes (Please, don’t dismiss coloring as an activity for adults. I’ve seen people of all ages color and enjoy it very much. It is a relaxing activity for many. I do suggest using adult-type coloring books available in many hobby, craft, and sometimes gift shops.)
  • Gardening supplies such as pots, soil, plants, seeds, tools, gloves, etc…
  • Fishing supplies if your loved one enjoys fishing and is able to go
  • Greeting cards and thank you cards to send to others
  • Active games such as croquet, lightweight balls for exercise, stretchbands, etc… according to your situation
  • Sensory type items like wind chimes, lava lamps, fabric, seasonal decorations
  • Food items to make into snacks or meals
  • Baking supplies for baking, frosting, decorating
