Put a child’s artwork on display
It will bring cheer to you all day!
Some children love to draw. My children loved to draw and draw a lot! So what can you do with the beautiful drawings after filling up the refrigerator door and filling up your walls? Give them to a grandparent or older friend in the form of a postcard! What better fan (besides mom and dad of course) of a child’s artwork than a grandparent?
Postcard art is a simple way for a child to express themselves through art and send their love.
Here’s what you’ll need for your postcard art:
USPS says that a postcard size must be:
- Rectangular
- At least 3-1/2 inches high x 5 inches long x 0.007 inch thick
- No more than 4-1/4 inches high x 6 inches long x 0.016 inches thick
USPS also says that the thickness of a postcard can be likened to the thickness of an index card.
- Choose a postcard (keeping the above in mind)
- Paint, markers, crayons, colored pencils, etc… to draw with.
Tips for postcard art:
- Have a child draw the artwork of his choice on only one side of the postcard.
- Fill out the address and a message on the other side and include a stamp.
- Send it in the mail (this is especially great for long distance grandparents) or give to a grandparent in person.
- Consider giving an older family member a place card holder to display the postcard like the one in the picture above. If they place it on a table beside where they usually sit, they will be able to view it throughout the day. Place card holders are available at Craft stores. I bought mine at a Hobby Lobby Store® in the party aisle. (The one above is from Bright Ideas™) They are also available in the wedding aisle.
- Continue to send a child’s artwork throughout the year. An older family member can change their postcard display when they receive a new one.
- Send one to a family member in a nursing home who would probably love to receive one or more!
- Update: 2/24/2016 With the recent creation of adult-type coloring books also comes the coloring postcards. Look for these where the coloring books are sold. These however, have pre-drawn pictures.
